5 Things to Do in Chicago’s Edgewater Neighborhood

Last month our Chicago’s Edgewater location turned 9! We’re happy to say that with the exception of a couple of hiccups, these years have moved swiftly. Over the years, we have built lasting friendships with many of you who live right here in our neighborhood. Edgewater is known for being eclectic and vibrant with a rich cultural history, stunning lakefront views, and a growing reputation for its diverse food scene.

Whether you are visiting or are new to Edgewater, here are five things you can do in our charming neighborhood:

Enjoy a Peaceful Walk Along Osterman Beach

The Chicago’s Edgewater neighborhood offers stunning views of Lake Michigan, making it an ideal place for a peaceful, meditative walk or bike ride along the Lakefront Trail.

This scenic,18-mile trail stretches from the north side of the city all the way to the south, and the stretch near Edgewater offers gorgeous lake views, parks, and plenty of green space.

One of these gorgeous views is Osterman Beach, the hidden gem that offers water sport rentals like kayaking and canoeing, designated grill areas, and free Wi-fi. Osterman Beach is a historic LGBTQIA+ destination with inclusive community events.

Explore Edgewater’s Farmers Market

If you’re looking to explore local produce, check out the Edgewater Farmers Market. Held on Mondays from June to September, this open-air market showcases fresh, locally-grown fruits, vegetables, and artisanal products.

Many vendors offer organic and plant-based options, so you can stock up on everything from fresh herbs to seasonal produce, ensuring you have all the ingredients you need for a home-cooked vegan feast. It’s a great way to support local farmers while enjoying the best of what Edgewater has to offer.

Treat Yourself to Vegan Desserts at Vacas Creamery

For those with a sweet tooth, Vacas Creamery is the place to go for vegan soft serve ice cream. This ice cream shop is located in Lincoln Square’s Giddings Plaza. They’re known for their Sundays and milkshakes and to-go vegan pints with seasonal flavors.

Vacas has been featured in the New York times and even though they’re not in Edgewater, their location is a short distance. Visit them at 2324 W Giddings St, Chicago, IL. It’s worth the trip!

Indulge in Antique and Vintage Shopping

Edgewater is well-known for its vintage shopping district with vast retail options, like antiques, furniture, and vintage designer clothes. The largest and oldest antique store in Edgewater, Broadway Antique Market offers vintage jewelry, vinyl, and furniture.

Additionally, Vern + Vera was recognized by Architectural Digest as one of Chicago’s best vintage furniture stores. They offer upscale vintage furniture from the 1950s to 1960s Italian and American designers. If you have an eye for handmade craftsmanship, this shop is known for offering pieces that are both beautiful and in quality condition. The best excuse to give these items a second life!

Support Restaurants that are 100% Vegan

Although there are a few other businesses that offer vegan-friendly options, we’re the only restaurant that’s 100% vegan in Edgewater. In addition to offering 100% vegan appetizers and entrees, we have more than 15+ desserts and limited time specials daily.
